We wanted to do more than just send in money, so we have teamed with Dr. Michael Domier of the Marine Science Conservation Institute, ( http://www.marinecsi.org ) to provide his research project with images and field notes on the Great White Sharks seen at Guadalupe Island by our diving guests.
During the latter half of the 2002 Great White Shark season, our sharp-eyed wrangler, Jessie “Sharkchik” Harper, began collecting images from our divers and taking field notes on the markings and behaviors of individual White Sharks. We have now identified and named 65 different Great White Sharks at Guadalupe Island. During our trips we carry a binder with images of each named shark showing left, right, tail, dorsal fin, and frontal views. We hope to educate our guests about the sharks at this very special destination and encourage them to take action, either by donating to their favorite ocean conservation or research organization or participating in one of the projects themselves.
