It is common for passengers to want to reward boat & dive crews for good service, but often the divers are in a quandary as to just how much of a gratuity they should leave. Following are a few guidelines. As always, tipping is at the discretion of the diver offering the reward. It is somewhat standard in the dive industry to leave 10-15% of the cost of the liveaboard portion of the trip. The amount is often dictated by where you are, in other words a $250 tip in Mexico has more local value than say the same amount in Grand Cayman. The amount is always commiserate with the level of service you receive, again a divemaster in Mexico may not have as much to work with as the guide in the Caribbean. The effort is what really counts. Please be aware that traditionally boat crews and divemasters are not well paid by their employer and derive a significant portion of their annual income through gratuities. Factor into your equation the total number of crew and divemasters; a tip split between 10 people over 10 days results in a small amount to each person. Cash is preferred, but you can also use your credit card. To place your gratuity on your credit card please see the Cruise Director. Please place your gratuity for the shark diving crew and the Andrea Lynn
crew into the tip envelope along with the completed trip evaluation form
and give it to your Cruise Director.
